action from the Junior Championships and Sally Ridley from
Scarborough-Wombarra is congratulated by Club President Chris
Kubara after winning gold in the U12 Female Surf Race.
Congratulations
Sally!!

I
had the honour of announcing the McDonald's Illawarra Junior
Male and Female Lifesavers of 2003 at the opening of the carnival.
Congratulations went to Ben Dowling from the Helensburgh-Stanwell
Park Club and Hannah Walker from the Wollongong City Club.
They will represent the Illawarra at the state titles on the
27th at Swansea-Belmont. Pictured below is Hannah collecting
her Gold for the U14 Female Iron Person.

Port
Corporation sponsors Port Kembla SLSC

Phil McGavin from the Port Kembla Port Corporation presented
President Bill Seay with a new $20,000 Surf Boat. It was an
impressive presentation with a 10 story wharf crane lifting
a shipping container up to reveal the new boat. Phil then
surprised everyone by announcing that if Port Kembla wins
a medal of any colour at a State Championship the Port Corporation
will buy them a second new surf boat.

After
the presentation to the club the boat was named after a member
Kevin "Cags" Carriage and christened with champagne
by Kevin's widow Almma. The Rev. Tudno Rees from the Port
Kembla mission to seafarers gave a short address and prayed
a blessing over the boat and all those who rowed the vessel.
Helensburgh-Stanwell
Park SLSC 95th Year
The
Novatel Grand Ball Room was the venue for a mighty celebration
of 95 years of Life Saving. Not only have they patrolled Stanwell
Park beach but the club has helped our Branch immensely and
other clubs as far away as Cottesloe in W.A.
Club
Life Member Evan Griffiths spent the week before in Sutherland
Hospital and was released just before the event. Evan picked
up an infection in his leg while officiating at the last round
of the Sydney Water Surf Club Premership the weekend before.
