McDonald's Invitational Bulli 30/11/02

McDonald's has supported the McDonald's Carnival and SLSI since 1998. "We are proud to be associated with Surf Lifesaving Illawarra and in supporting such an important community service," said Katia Dwarte, owner /operator of McDonald's Warilla.

We are grateful for the support from McDonald's, without which we wouldn't be able to hold carnivals such as these and develop other important initiatives. McDonald's restaurants in the Illawarra region have been dedicated contributors to the area since the first Illawarra restaurant opened in 1977. McDonald's support for the 17 surf clubs in the region encompasses funding for new rescue equipment for each club, the Junior Volunteer of the Year award program and in 2003 will be helping us with funding for a youth leadership camp for 13 and 14 year old Rookie Lifesavers.

The Bulli March Past Team show their style.

"Giving back to the community is a fundamental part of McDonald's in the Illawarra region. It is important to provide our junior surf lifesavers with the best opportunities for developing their talent and provide our community with safe beaches." Said Katia Dwarte.

National Scrutineers Course 1/12/02

Participants were presented with a wealth of knowledge from presenters: Ken Bond, Bill Singleton, Bill Wonson, Ken Hudson, Don Harris, Jeff Lucke and Don Allan.

NSW Interbranch Championships 14/12/02

Our Branch Team travelled to Stockton Beach Newcastle and came home with excellent results. The team finished in 5th position on 619 points, the best ever achieved by a combined team. This was a result of every member supporting each other, helping out whenever possible and competing to the best of their ability. All team members gave 100% on the two days on competition. Congratulations to Dean Buttel, Mathew Hiesly from Wollongong City and Josh Minogue from Thirroul who have been selected as part of the NSW team to compete at the interstate in Tasmania later in January. As well as three members being selected for the state team the highlight of the weekend was to win the Life Saver Relay the 'blue ribbon' event of the carnival. Our winning team of 9 members was: Mathew Freeman (swimmer), Mathew Heisly (board paddler), Downie Langthorne (ski), Michael Astill (run), Jack Patison (sweep), Seb James, Aaron Greenhalgh, Adam Prentice and Steve Drysdale (rowers).

Congratulations to all our team and special thanks to Team Manager Trish Whant, Assistant Manager Steve Rosa and Team Coaches Dennis Allen, Kevin Starling and Leonie Langendam. Without all their efforts in putting the team together Illawarra would not have achieved our excellent results.

Thankyou to our sponsors for the Branch Team: McDonald's and Integral Energy.
